REGION – Small medical and dental practices routinely have claims denied by insurance companies. A practice with one or two providers usually has nobody on staff whose job is to appeal those denials. When the appeal window closes, the practice either writes the money off or bills the patient for it. The patient then owes money their insurance should have covered.
On Wednesday, Oct. 1, Luxen is running a free medical billing clinic for 20 independent Vermont practices with less than $750,000 in annual revenue. Each practice brings its unpaid and denied claims. We tell them which ones can still be recovered, exactly what to file, and by when. They leave with appeal letter templates and a filing deadline calendar for Vermont’s main insurance plans. This is a no-cost clinic.
