Londonderry approves tax rate, discusses 2026 culvert project

Londonderry, Vt.

LONDONDERRY, Vt. – The Londonderry Selectboard set their municipal tax rate at the July 7 meeting. Treasurer Tina Labeau reported that the municipal rate is $0.6517 per $100 of assessed value, which is up $0.0604 from last year. The tax rates, including educational taxes, for homestead is $2.3049 per $100, and non-homestead at $2.6187 per $100.

The board also heard from Amy Spera from Gill Engineering about an upcoming culvert replacement project, slated for the summer of 2026. Mahendra Thilliyar, of the Vermont Agency of Transportation, had written also to the board with a few options. The two culverts, 228 and 225, along Route 100, are 0.6 miles apart, and could be replaced “simultaneously using a single roadway closure of 60-70 days.” Thilliyar wrote, “Alternatively, the culverts could be replaced one at a time using two roadway closures, with a duration of six weeks each.”

The board opted for two separate closures, during the school summer break of 2026, in order to not interfere with school bus routes. Detour maps can be found within the July 7 meeting packet on the town’s website.

Green Mountain Power spoke about updating the town’s electric wires, 90% of which will be done underground, and will take a few months to complete from start to finish.

The board approved the long-term recovery plan, also termed the Derry Resilience Project. Board Chair Tom Cavanagh said, “I have no problem approving it,” adding the committee worked long and hard on the plan. The document can be found on page 104 of the July 7 meeting packet on the town’s website, www.londonderryvt.org.

The Londonderry Selectboard will next meet on Monday, July 21, at 6 p.m.
