PROCTORSVILLE, Vt. – A new gift shop and marketplace has opened along Route 103 in Proctorsville, bringing together Vermont-made products, specialty foods, and locally sourced gifts under one roof.
Arnie and Peggy Campney, owners of the family-operated Green Mountain Fireside Specialties, have expanded their retail business with the opening of Fireside Market, located in the retail space adjacent to their Proctorsville stove showroom. The Campneys established Green Mountain Fireside Specialties in Ludlow, in 2018, specializing in indoor heating products and wood and gas stoves. In May 2025, they expanded their retail operations by opening a second storefront in Proctorsville. On Oct.1, they added Fireside Market to the location.
The family business includes the couple’s children, who each play a role in the operation. Grace works as a retail associate at the new market, Mason serves as sales manager and divides his time between the Ludlow and Proctorsville locations, and Zach is the lead installer, handling installations on site.
The expansion also allowed the Campneys to make better use of additional warehouse and retail space that became available. What had once become a smaller showroom with room for only a few stoves has grown to accommodate approximately 20 wood and gas models, along with an expanded outdoor display area featuring firepits, grills, outdoor heating, and furniture.
The concept for Fireside Market developed as the Campneys learned that Grafton Village Cheese, which previously occupied the space, would be leaving its Proctorsville location at the end of September.
Peggy said, “I was sad for us to see them leave and wanted to continue the tradition, and we already had a small gift store with Vermont Flannel Co. products, Chandler Four Corners (Manchester) hearth rugs, and felt like expanding our retail shop along with culinary cheeses would be nice.”

The market emphasizes Vermont-made and locally sourced products, including Vermont Teddy Bear, lavender products from Green Mountain Lavendar, Common Sense soaps and fragrance products, artisan marshmallows for a s’mores station, specialty chocolates, crackers, and other gift items. The culinary selection includes cheeses from Grafton Village Cheese, Vermont Farmstead, and Plymouth Artisan Cheese, along with specialty crackers and spreads.
Peggy reported that the first week of business went well. “It was great because Grafton Village Cheese fully supported us and didn’t make an announcement, and left the store shelves and refrigerators set up, and operates it as a sister shop.” The Campneys were also able to benefit from the existing foot traffic.
“My passion is retail,” Peggy said. “I always wanted a store like this. I love seeing people, and we love seeing customers and try to make it a fun experience.” She explained that the market will continue offering items related to charcuterie and is considering expanding its offerings to include a selection of wines.
Fireside Market is open seven days per week, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Green Mountain Fireside Specialties’ Ludlow location is at 57 Pond Street in the Okemo Marketplace. Its Proctorsville location is at 2568 Route 103. For more information, call 802-975-0626.
