ALSTEAD, N.H. – It was 20 years ago that Scott Gendron and George “JR” Fisher Jr. partnered up and opened their automotive repair service, Gendron-Fisher Automotive, on July 5, 2006. The pair, both longtime residents of Alstead, N.H., began their small auto repair shop with only a two-bay garage. Together, they have since earned a reputation for quality automotive repair and service in Alstead and its surrounding communities.
Once established, Gendron-Fisher Auto began to expand, adding a third bay along with an alignment machine. Gendron’s son Robert joined them to perform alignments after graduating from college in 2009. In 2012, additional space was acquired so that the shop could add another lift, and several additional technicians were brought onboard. By 2013, the business had grown strong, with between four and five full-time mechanics.
More than a year ago, in March of 2025, an explosion destroyed the entire building and its contents. Gendron-Fisher was out of commission and unsure if it would be able to continue, though thankful that no one was injured as a result of this incident. The explosion and fire were the result of an illegal propane tank that had been set up by a former tenant who was renting out space in the building at that time.
The community support and outreach after the fire was overwhelming and encouraged Gendron and Fisher to rebuild. The construction process occurred over a seven-month period, and on Oct. 13, 2025, Gendron-Fisher Automotive was back in business.
Gendron expressed his deep gratitude for the support of the community and said, “We had great support after the fire with [help] pouring in, and trying to help out to get things going, and…felt the need that we needed to get back in business.” He expressed appreciation for all of the community support and the cards from customers that they received. He stated that the support came from not only Alstead, but from customers in surrounding communities such as Claremont, N.H.; Bellows Falls, Springfield, and Brattleboro, Vt.; and beyond, as well as from Claremont Savings Bank, which assisted with financing the cost of construction, and of replacing equipment.
The new building now contains a total of five lifts. They were able to add an additional bay for improved service, and they currently employ five mechanics. The new facility is more modern and brings the building up to a higher standard. The facility now includes a waiting room for customers to sit comfortably and relax while waiting for their vehicle’s repairs to be completed and an on-site restroom.
Gendron went on to express, “The most important part is how much support we received from the town and the surrounding communities. It was really overwhelming. It all came out well. We’re happy to be here taking care of the public and taking care of the town.”
Gendron-Fisher Automotive performs full-service auto repair of light duty trucks up to F-450, as well as all cars, SUVs, and crossovers of all manufacturers with certified auto repair parts warrantied for two years.
