BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. – Fall Mountain Pharmacy, located at 78 Atkinson Street in Bellows Falls, will soon be opening a second pharmacy location, Canal Street Pharmacy, at 447 Canal Street in Brattleboro. Renovations at the new site, the former Newton Business building, located near Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, began more than a year ago, and the new store will open on Monday, July 20.
Owners Marc and Gina Cote, who opened the current Bellows Falls location in the fall of 2024, have worked in area pharmacies for more than 30 years. Licensed pharmacist Marc worked at the Brattleboro Pharmacy and then Brattleboro Rite Aid during the Covid pandemic. It was during that time that the Cotes recognized the need and opened their Atkinson Street pharmacy.
“I worked for my friend Andy Miller at Brattleboro Pharmacy from 2021 to 2022, then Andy sold the pharmacy to Rite Aid,” Marc Cote said in a recent interview. “I continued working there until early 2024. Then, when Hotel Pharmacy closed, I realized that, given the exceptional volume of prescriptions in the area and the lack of an independent pharmacy, it would be a great location to open a store.”
Previously, Cote had worked at the Chester Drug Store, and had opened Greater Falls Pharmacy in 2004, but in recent years Bellows Falls, Brattleboro, and surrounding areas have been losing independent, privately owned pharmacy services to bigger chain stores such as Walgreens and Kinney Drugs.
The Cotes strive to offer a traditional, apothecary-style pharmacy, delivering a much more personalized customer service for their clientele that you simply won’t get from a larger, chain-store pharmacy.
“Our motto is ‘we care,’ and we assure you that it is not just ‘lip service,’” Cote concluded. “We are ready to continue proving to our community how much more a caring, independent pharmacy can take great care of them.”
A few of the services Fall Mountain Pharmacy currently offers include a local delivery service, a compounding service, compliance packaging, vaccine services, a new customized phone app, and more services also coming to the Brattleboro location as well. The Cotes encourage the community to call with any questions as they prepare to open the Canal Street location.
The Canal Street Pharmacy will be open on Monday, July 20, and the store hours will be Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.; and Saturday, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
