CLAREMONT, N.H. – After a recent city council meeting, the City of Claremont agreed to contract a professional recruiting firm to assist in the hiring of both an interim and permanent city manager.
The council is hiring Municipal Resources Inc. (MRI), a professional recruiting firm based in Plymouth, N.H., specializing in tailored recruiting and hiring services to communities throughout New England. MRI has previously assisted various cities and towns in hiring town administrators, police and fire chiefs, community development planners, and communications specialists.
During the meeting, the possibility had also been discussed of conducting an “in house” search by utilizing available online job search websites such as ZipRecruiter or JOBlist. However, because the city’s human resources department is previously connected with the Linkedin platform, they have the ability to funnel qualified candidates to the council for consideration.
The current city manager, Nancy Bates, gave her resignation in June, and will officially leave the position at the end of July. Therefore, due to the limited amount of time to conduct a search, an interim manager will be needed while the search continues for a permanent city manager.
MRI has enjoyed recent successes in helping other, similar New Hampshire towns hire various managers, including Derry, Wolfeboro, Durham, and Lebannon. These successes prove the value of hiring a professional recruiting service to ensure a proper and thorough search. The city is hoping this option will change its recent luck, as it is about to hire its sixth city manager in the last dozen years.
