Fascinating Fungi, Magnificent Mushrooms
October 5 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
NORWICH, Vt. – Fungi are neither animals nor plants; however, fungi have characteristics of both living creatures. If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about the study of fungi, or mycology, then this workshop is for you! Jessica Whitaker, President of the Sunapee Region Mycology Club, will introduce the basics of mycology and some of the more common fall mushrooms for the area. You’ll learn some history, ecology, and you’ll learn about mushrooms, and how to better identify them, and get to know more about these organisms that are often overlooked or misunderstood. Feel free to bring in specimens to the classroom that you’re curious about. A fungal treat will be provided.
This program will be partly inside, and partly outside, walking on the Montshire’s trails.
Details:
Attendees are encouraged to bring a notebook and pen or pencil, magnifying glass (if they have one), camera, drinking water, and a snack/lunch. It is recommended to wear comfortable clothes for hiking/woods exploration, as well as sturdy boots or sneakers (we’ll be on trail, but also traversing some of the forested landscape). Bug repellant is also encouraged.
