Candidates at the Coffeehouse
September 21 @ 12:00 pm - September 28 @ 3:00 pm
FreeThe Flat Iron Cooperative at 51 The Square in Bellows falls will host a Meet the Candidates Event on Saturday September 28 from noon to three pm. This event is offered as part of the Cooperative’s commitment to offer educational opportunities to the community and support participation in democracy.
Two statewide candidates will be available to hear your concerns, answer questions, and engage in discussions. Justin Schoville practices law in Killington and is a candidate for US Senate. He supports democracy in both political and economic aspects of our lives. June Goodband is a candidate for Governor who believes that every person matters and advocates shifting our priorities to make sure every person in Vermont can meet their basic needs. She believes it is the governors responsibility to implement laws that have been passed, including the Universal Health Care Law Vermont’s legislature passed in 2011. She also advocates urgent action to address the climate emergency.
Larisa Demos, co-owner of the Flat Iron Cafe, said some of the seven co-op principles are focused on education, democracy, and concern for community. “We are excited to host the Candidates at the Coffeehouse series to help educate our community about democracy and encourage engagement with local and state officials in conversation.” They hosted candidates from other parties this election season and continue to support civic engagement. The Cafe offers a variety of coffee and tea drinks, baked goods and light lunch options for purchase, including vegan and gluten free choices, to make the event even more interesting and enjoyable.
