Dear Friends,
I am Lisa DeBartolomao, and I am a candidate for state representative in District 3, representing Charlestown, Newport, and Unity, N.H. I am running because I want to help make New Hampshire a better and more affordable place to live, work, raise a family, and retire.
I am a lifelong New Hampshire resident. I grew up in a poor, working-class family, and I know firsthand what it means to struggle to make ends meet and to depend on social service programs to get through difficult times.
I have lived in Charlestown for 32 years, and all of my children attended Fall Mountain schools. I care deeply about our community and the opportunities we provide for our children. One of my biggest concerns is the property tax burden facing Charlestown. High property taxes make it harder for working families to afford their homes and can force retirees on fixed incomes out of the communities where they have lived for decades. I believe the state can do more to help property-poor communities like ours fund public education while reducing the pressure on local taxpayers. New Hampshire’s approach to education funding should not leave students in communities with fewer resources at a disadvantage. We should be looking for ways to ensure that students at Fall Mountain have access to the same opportunities as students in wealthier communities.
I am also concerned about the rising costs that face working families, including housing, childcare, and healthcare. These are issues that affect all of us, regardless of political party. I don’t believe Democrats and Republicans have to agree on everything, but I do believe they need to work together, listen to one another, and find practical solutions that make New Hampshire more affordable for everyone. I want to be part of that process and help bring respect and collaboration back into our politics.
I would appreciate your vote on Nov. 3.
