My name is Michael J. Kamel. I was born at Springfield Hospital on Aug. 7, 1946, and recently had a hip replacement.
I had heard good things about Dr. David Muller and his orthopedic surgical staff. Those of us who live in Springfield and the surrounding Precision Valley are familiar with the “Crystal Palace” hospital in New Hampshire. Well, I can attest that we have a shining gem on a hill right here in Springfield.
I had recently fallen, resulting in a lot of pain in my left hip. I made an appointment to see Dr. Muller. When I made the phone call, the receptionist directed my call to the orthopedic unit, and the call went through immediately. I made an appointment that week. I struggled to walk. I was met by the radiologist technician, named Karen. She wheeled me into the X-ray room. She was very pleasant and helpful, positioning my body for the X-rays.
Dr. Muller came in, introduced himself, and examined me. He showed me the X-rays and described in much detail the damage and deterioration from arthritis. Surgery was the only option, and surgery was scheduled quickly.
It was quite a process in preparation for surgery. Stacie, the pre-op coordinator, explained in great detail what was needed. She scheduled all of the appointments, and there were quite a few.
After surgery I had dinner that evening, which was excellent. I was monitored throughout the night. The next morning, after breakfast, I walked with the help of a physical therapist and was released.
I met so many professional and caring staff I may not be able to remember all of their names, but I will have an indelible memory of their smiling faces.
The day your readers may need medical care, I strongly recommend their first call should be to Springfield Medical Center. I have fully recovered and am now looking forward to an active life without pain.
