At the polls on Tuesday, Aug. 11, in Springfield, a Democrat candidate for a Windsor County Senate seat had two of her 20-something-year-old daughters there helping her campaign. I asked if they believed they could afford to stay in Vermont their entire lives the way it’s going, and they both answered “no” and gave a laundry list of reasons, including too-high taxes, cost of living, lack of good-paying jobs, lack of quality healthcare unless they go to DHMC, the cost of health insurance, and many other things, and the one thing we hear repeatedly from young people, who say they couldn’t afford to raise a family here.
How is it they recognize this, but the Democrats in office or running for office appear to be blind to this?
Yes, the Democrats all say the same scripted word: “affordability.” But not one of them says what needs to be done or admits it’s Democrat policies that have caused the problems.
FYI, the Democrats, in desperation, have tried to tie Vermont Republicans to Trump; some like him, some don’t, and he has no influence over Vermont politics.
