PUTNEY, Vt. – Two area zydeco bands will perform at the annual Vermont Zydeco Party at Next Stage Arts in Putney, on Saturday, Oct. 10, from 3-8:30 p.m. The event will take place in Next Stage’s community room, with its wooden floor providing plenty of space for dancing.

The afternoon will start with a beginner zydeco dance lesson at 3 p.m., giving those new to zydeco an introduction to the basic steps and an opportunity to get comfortable on the dance floor. A second, more advanced dance lesson will be offered later in the afternoon for more experienced dancers.

ZydeGroove will take the stage first, bringing its country zydeco sound to the party. The band draws on the roots of the genre, combining the traditional sounds of zydeco with the country influences that are part of its musical heritage. A potluck buffet will be served during a dinner break, providing an opportunity to enjoy a meal and visit with friends and other dancers.

Next, Planet Zydeco will perform traditional, accordion-driven zydeco inspired by the music of Louisiana’s rural dance halls. Their repertoire includes up-tempo songs, blues, and traditional waltzes.

The cost of admission includes both dance lessons, performances by the two bands, and the potluck. A cash bar will also be available.
