The evening showcases two distinct but complementary acts, each offering a fresh take on traditional music.
É.T.É brings a bold, contemporary perspective to Quebecois trad. The trio – violinist Élisabeth Moquin, bouzouki player Thierry Clouette, and cellist Élisabeth Giroux – draws on jazz, progressive rock, and classical influences to reimagine Quebecois and Acadian repertoire. Known for their rich vocal harmonies, inventive arrangements, and infectious energy, É.T.É delivers performances that transform the spirit of a kitchen party into a vibrant concert experience.
Since their 2017 debut Le bois des midnights, É.T.É has earned numerous honors, including the OPUS “Discovery of the Year” award, the Linda Lemay Award, and a GAMIQ “Lucien.” The group has toured widely across Canada, the United States, Scotland, Belgium, and Australia, and released their latest album, Sur ces eaux, in November 2022.
The second half of the double bill features Keith Murphy and Yann Falquet, two of the leading voices in contemporary Celtic guitar. Their work highlights the rich textures, harmonies, and rhythmic possibilities the guitar has brought to traditional music since the Celtic revival of the 1970s.
As singers, Murphy and Falquet blend Franco and Anglo traditions with depth and nuance. Falquet – best known for his work with the acclaimed Quebecois trio Genticorum – brings a wealth of French-Canadian songs, while Murphy, a highly respected traditional singer and founding member of the influential trio Nightingale, draws from the musical traditions of Newfoundland, Quebec, and Vermont.
Together, these two acts create a compelling evening that bridges tradition and innovation, offering audiences both the driving, modern edge of Quebecois music and the nuanced artistry of contemporary Celtic song and guitar.
