CLAREMONT, N.H. – Have you ever heard the music of a tango and found yourself dancing around your house with your eyes closed? Now is your opportunity to dance with them open.
On Friday evening, Oct. 20, at 6:30 p.m., two experienced dancers will come to the Ballroom Dance at the Claremont Senior Center, to help get us started on the path to enjoying dancing the tango.
Starting right at 6:30 p.m., Matthew Peake and Shanti Brubaker will give a demonstration and brief introductory lesson in how to move to the beautiful Argentine tango rhythms. They will show basic frame, how to move our feet, and how to hear the tango music and move our bodies to the tango rhythms. Matt and Shanti bring dance to their community through Main Street Arts in Saxtons River, Vt.
From 7-9 p.m., Gerry Grimo and his five-piece East Bay Dance Combo will provide live music for a variety of dance styles, including the tango, so we can practice. Matt and Shanti will stay and dance with us, and continue to share their love and knowledge of this fascinating dance.
There are many benefits of dancing: partner dancing a few times a week is the highest rated activity to prevent dementia and Alzheimer’s. You get great exercise and flexibility. You meet really nice people.
Come enjoy our large dance floor and comfortable table seating. Snacks and water are provided, and you may bring your own non-alcoholic beverage.
The Center is located at 5 Acer Heights, just off Maple Street, in Claremont, N.H. The entrance fee is payable at the door. This includes the lesson. Singles are welcome. Wear comfortable, flexible, clean-sole shoes, and be prepared to move.
The final dance for this year will be held on Friday, Nov. 10. Dances for 2024 will be announced when finalized. Thank you for joining us this past year, and we wish you all a very safe and happy holiday season. For more information call Betsey Child at 603-504-6671.
