Springfield Community Band upcoming concerts

REGION – On Sunday, July 12, the Springfield Community Band will present a concert in Walpole, N.H., under the direction of Nick Pelton. The evening will feature familiar, exciting, and well-loved music from Broadway musicals, including “Phantom of the Opera,” “The Greatest Showman,” “Wicked,” and “Chicago.”

The featured performance of the evening will be by vocalist Grace Thompson, who will sing a medley of familiar selections from “The Sound of Music.”

The concert will take place at the gazebo at 34 Elm Street in Walpole, N.H., at 6:30 p.m. Please bring a chair.

On Tuesday, July 14, at 6:15 p.m., the band will present its annual children’s concert at The Common, a park on Cherry Hill in Springfield, opposite the Summer Hill Cemetery.

Pelton will conduct. Children are invited to come in costume.

The concert will feature dancers from The Dance Company enacting the story of “Peter and the Wolf,” with choreography by Ashley Hensel-Browning. Children who would like to conduct the band will have the chance to do so. There will also be a free frozen treat for all the kids.

Another treat will be Pelton on saxophone, playing “Lightning Fingers.” The title speaks for itself.
