LONDONDERRY, Vt. – The Londonderry Arts and Historical Society (LAHS) is pleased to announce that it has lined up a wonderful variety of art exhibitions, classes, and activities for both children and adults this summer.
Thanks to grants from The Thrifty Attic and The Community Fund of Londonderry, our popular Pop-up Art led by local artists will be held at the Custer Sharp House every Saturday, from July 4 – Aug. 9. Meet the artists in the studio of the Custer Sharp House every Saturday, from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The drop-in art classes are for all ages. Classes are free of charge, and all materials are provided. There’s no need to register. Just stop by with friends or family for some creative fun.
In July, artist and teacher Bev Foster will offer an exploratory drawing class for children. Class will meet Monday, July 6 – Friday, July 10, from 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m., and will explore drawing with pencils, chalk, charcoal, colored pencils, and nature objects. The cost of the class includes all materials and a simple snack. Foster is a former early elementary teacher, who holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and art. In retirement, she enjoys sharing her love of art with children.

Art teacher Casey Junker Bailey returns in August for her popular Art With the Masters class for kids. Class meets Monday, Aug. 3 – Friday, Aug. 7, from 1-3:30 p.m. This year, children will explore a wide variety of materials and artistic styles as they create drawings, paintings, collages, and sculptures inspired by the works of famous artists through the ages. Join Bailey to make Giacometti sculptures, Renoir still lifes, flowing Frankenthaler paintings, color-filled Ted Harrison landscapes, and more. The class will culminate with a celebratory art show for family and friends. The cost of the class includes all materials and a daily snack. Bailey has been bringing the joy of art to elementary school kids for more than 40 years in Vermont classrooms. She now enjoys bringing her programs to children and adults through libraries and summer classes. Contact Bailey at 802-289-4360 or email caseyjunkerbailey@gmail.com for information and class registration.
In addition to classes, there will be ongoing exhibitions of art and history at the Custer Sharp House throughout the season. A calendar of events can be found on the website of the Londonderry Arts and Historical Society, www.lahsvt.org.
