SAXTONS RIVER, Vt. – West Coast guitarist John Stowell joins New England guitarist Draa Hobbs for a jazz performance on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 7:30 p.m., at Main Street Arts (MSA) in Saxtons River, Vt.

Tickets are available from the MSA website at mainstreetarts.org.

The duo has been performing together for more than a dozen years, and has developed an intimate conversational style that leaves audiences amazed and asking for more.

Stowell is an internationally recognized jazz guitarist and educator who has performed throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America.

The Los Angeles Times wrote, “Guitarist John Stowell’s style with standards is a delightful departure from the road well traveled. He transcends the label of jazz guitarist.” The Seattle Times had this to say about John’s playing, “Stowell played beautifully, combining his trademark creamy chord voicings with long, sinewy phrases.”

A Downbeat magazine review stated that, “John Stowell plays his amplified guitar as if he were surrounded by fine crystal…the type of slow burning, sustained energy that you hear in players that practice all the time.”

Hobbs performs in concerts and clubs throughout New England, and has performed in France and toured Germany. Having apprenticed with Hungarian guitarist Attila Zoller, Hobbs went on to perform in concerts with some of the top names in jazz, including Don Friedman, Ron McClure, Eliot Zigmund, Peter Bernstein, Steve Cardenas, David Amram, and numerous other world class musicians.

In addition to original compositions from a recent recording project by Hobbs, the duo will be performing a wide variety of music from the classic jazz repertoire featuring compositions by Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Billy Strayhorn, Kenny Wheeler, and familiar standards from the Great American Songbook.

Main Street Arts’ mission is to be a catalyst for arts and community, fostering creative expression through artistic experiences, accessible to all.
