WESTON, Vt. – Gypsy Reel’s concert from the bandstand on the Weston Green, on Labor Day, at 4 p.m., has become a fixture in the local community calendar. Somehow, the timing – on a Monday afternoon, with many tourists heading south – has given this concert a symbolic role in welcoming fall, however we may want to cling to summer.
Jon Clinch, one of Gypsy Reel’s special guests on Monday, Sept. 7, will likely sing a song called “Summer’s End,” which captures those wistful changes-of-season sentiments. Gypsy Reel’s combination of fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, percussion, and stellar harmonies has proved to be a winning Celtic formula. Gypsy Reel has been enjoying this annual event on the beautiful lawn of the Weston Green for long enough to notice the growth of the beautiful shade trees that make this concert space so perfect for picnics.
Robert Brandt first invited the band to perform many moons ago, and this year’s concert will be performed in his memory – a lovely, gentle soul, missed but not forgotten by the whole community. Please join us; bring chairs and refreshments to the Weston Green on Monday, Sept. 7, at 4 p.m. The rain venue will be the Old Parish Church, also on Main Street in Weston.
