Free summer nature programs for kids at local libraries

REGION – The Nature Museum is excited to again offer free environmental education programming at local libraries, made possible through the generous support of Great River Hydro. Called Summer Unplugged, these engaging, hands-on programs with experienced educators take place at public libraries in Springfield, Vt.; Chester, Vt.; Charlestown, N.H.; Walpole N.H.; and the Bellows Falls Fish Ladder and Visitor Center in Bellows Falls, Vt., throughout the summer months.
Designed to highlight the unique ecology and landscape of northern New England, this series of seven programs is geared for students in pre-K through elementary grades, and individuals of all ages are encouraged to attend and participate. Beginning the week of June 24 and ending in August, program topics include beavers, owls, squirrels and chipmunks, and fairy house building.
Each session will last for 45 minutes and will include an exploration of artifacts, a story, and opportunities to engage with expert educators and ask questions about nature-related topics. See the full schedule for times at all five locations at the Nature Museum website.
“The Walpole Town Library has been fortunate to host the Summer Unplugged program since its inception. This cherished summer tradition has become a favorite among our families. Undoubtedly, the highlight for everyone is the hands-on objects Jocelyn brings to share and explore,” says librarian Julie Rios.
No registration is necessary for these programs. Library programs will be held outdoors, providing ample space for everyone to enjoy, and will move indoors in case of inclement weather.
The Nature Museum invites the community to join these free programs to unplug, discover, and learn about the wonders of our local natural world. For more information about Summer Unplugged and upcoming programs and locations, please visit The Nature Museum’s website or the hosting libraries.
