BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. – The Bellows Falls Historical Society & Museum has a new art exhibit featuring paintings and sketches by Saxtons River artist Lester “Les” Sheehan. The BFHS is displaying these in partnership with Connie Lancaster, of Saxtons River, and the Saxtons River Historical Society. There is also a display of photos from glass plate negatives, a magic lantern, and a stethoscopic viewer. These will be on display through Oct. 31.
The historical society also displays an original movie projector and equipment from one of the four theaters that operated in Bellows Falls, Vt., dating back to the late 1800s and early 1900s. In addition to the four theaters, there is the Belmont Drive-In. There is also a display on industry in Bellows Falls.
There will be an open house with a homemade cookie fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 1, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. The exhibit and displays can be viewed during current hours: Wednesday and Friday, from 1-3 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. One can schedule an appointment for another time by emailing bfhistoricalsociety@gmail.com with advance notice.
Come and see these unique pieces of history at the Bellows Falls Historical Society and Museum, 46 Canal Street in Bellows Falls. Also, the Adams Grist Mill, 20 Mill Street, is open Saturday and Sunday, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., and the Riverfront Park is open daily, from dawn to dusk. These three locations comprise the Bellows Falls Historical Society’s sites.
