GRAFTON, Vt. – The Grafton Community Church, 55 Main Street in Grafton, Vt., will hold a fundraising event on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 6 p.m., to benefit the Community Nurse Project. Admission is by donation at the door.
Joan Lake was a practicing nurse for the majority of her adult life. She and her fellow nurse and sister-in-law, Ernestine, would provide medical assistance any time there was a need. Steeped in the idea of Grafton’s community service tradition, they saw an urgency and responded to it. This all predated the stunning work of Grafton’s current rescue squad, originally formed as the FAST Squad in 1981.
A performance will honor both Joan and Ernestine, as well as many of those who have gone ahead. Tricia Suriani, soprano, David Naughton, tenor, and Thomas Toscano on piano will present the works of Chopin, Leoncavallo, Donaudy, and Toscano, to be followed by an audience Q&A. No phones, no computers, no technology, just the music simultaneously vibrating through all present.
The performers will pause and share their combined expertise in their beloved musical arts. Both the compositions and subsequent conversations will be held within a time frame that works for all, and promise to be memorable active listening experiences.
