SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – Planning is underway for the ninth annual Kurt Dechen Memorial Fund golf tournament to be held Saturday, Sept. 21 at Crown Point Country Club in Springfield, Vt. All proceeds will benefit the Kurt Dechen River Valley Technical Center Scholarship, Springfield Youth Football League, Springfield Booster Club, Springfield Park and Recreation Department, and other local organizations.
The KDM Fund is seeking tournament and hole sponsors as well as items to be given as door prizes.
The golf tournament will be a four-person scramble format with a shotgun start at 12 p.m. Registration begins at 11 a.m. Registration should be paid at the event and includes 18 holes of golf, cart, team and individual prizes, and heavy hors d’oeuvres.

Kurt graduated from Springfield High School in 2001, where he enjoyed being a part of athletics and the River Valley Technical Center. He attended Castleton State College to pursue a career in the field of criminal justice. While in college, Kurt joined the United States Marine Corps; graduating from boot camp at Parris Island, S.C. in August 2003. In 2006, Kurt trained at 29 Palms, Calif. before deploying to Iraq. Kurt was killed in action Aug. 3, 2006, his 24th birthday.
