SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – On Saturday, Oct. 12, the Edgar May Health and Recreation Center will host the 7th annual Fastest Kid in Town race at the Vermont Apple Festival and Craft Fair in Springfield, Vt. This is a free event open to any child between the ages of 5 and 12.
The Fastest Kid in Town Race began in 2013 to raise awareness on the importance of fitness and physical activity for children and has since become a popular annual event for youth and festival attendees that cheer them on. The kids-only 100- and 200-yard fun races will take place at noon during the 37th annual Vermont Apple Festival and Craft Fair at Riverside Park Saturday, Oct. 12. The goal for this year is to pre-register 80 children to participate with an additional 20 or more on the day of the race.
Staff from the Edgar May Health and Recreation Center and community volunteers will be on hand to get the children warmed up before the races and will have information on hand about the value of physical activity as well as the many youth and family fitness options available at the center.
Participating runners will compete in four age categories: 5-6-years, 7-8 years, 9-10 years, and 11-12 years. Medals for the fastest male and female runners of each category will be awarded. All participants will receive a race logo t-shirt for their efforts.
Pre-registration is recommended, but not required, by contacting the Edgar May Health and Recreation Center in Springfield, Vt. Call 802-885-2568 or go online www.myreccenter.org. Pre-registered participants are guaranteed a t-shirt in their specified size. Same-day registrations are available on first-come, first-serve basis.
