LONDONDERRY, Vt. – Get ready to take a road trip for Magic’s newest event in its trilogy of non-sanctioned extreme ski and ride competitions that started with Tuck It! Dec. 31 and ends with Master of the Mountain March 2. The upcoming event is Road to Ruin Saturday, Feb. 2.

Presented by Two Roads Brewery, Road to Ruin is a throwback to the classic ‘80s ski movie “Hot Dog: The Movie,” with a flat-out race top-to-bottom on double back diamonds. But like “Hot Dog,” here’s the twist on this steeply pitched road, it will be a mass-start and finish. Nothing fancy, just first across the finish line wins. There are no style points. There will be several race “heats” of groups first by age and gender with the winners of each heat going on to a final championship downhill run to determine who takes home the $1,000 top prize.

The top three finishers of the final run win their portion of the $1,500 cash purse for Road to Ruin. The winners of each heat also receive medals and prizes.

“It’s a steep and windy road to victory at the new Road to Ruin,” said Geoff Hatheway, president of Magic. “But it will be exciting to participate in as well as fun to watch. The competition will also be simulcast in our Black Line Tavern and on YouTube globally.”

Road to Ruin is open to 100 entries with a minimum age of 10 years old. Online registration ends Feb. 1 at 5 p.m. Day of registration Feb. 2 will be allowed if there is room, but participants must sign up by 10 a.m. A Road to Ruin t-shirt is included for each competitor. Registration is from 9 to 11 a.m. at Magic’s ticket office.

The event is sponsored by Two Roads Brewery, Bern Unlimited, and Suburban Ski & Bike.
