Strong performance at SEVCA’s golf tournament

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. – Players at SEVCA’s 18th annual “Chipping Away at Poverty” golf tournament Friday, June 14 faced cloudy conditions and an occasional drizzle, but that did not dampen anyone’s spirits. The tournament co-sponsors – Springfield Housing Authority, Mutual of America, and Sunset Tool Inc. along with 19 other major sponsors, 15 other donors, and 19 teams of golfers – raised nearly $11,000 to support SEVCA’s essential anti-poverty programs serving low-income individuals and families in Windham and Windsor counties.

A Hole-In-One contest sponsored by Fenton Family Dealerships/Subaru of Keene gave participants the chance to win a new Subaru Forrester and other valuable prizes, while Leone, McDonnell & Roberts sponsored the Putting Contest with its $5,000 grand prize. No players won the grand prizes this year, but Kevin Brennan came closest to the pin in the Putting Contest final to win a $100 prize. The popular Air Cannon Contest made a return visit, sponsored by Springfield Housing Authority, giving participants the chance to shoot their golf balls out of the air cannon from the tee at Hole #18 in hopes of getting closest to the pin. Pete Andrews, playing for the Mountain View team, landed his ball 5 feet and 9 inches from the pin and won a seven-night stay at one of over 3,000 vacation resorts.

Congratulations to the following tournament winners: Mutual of America, first; Jam Fuel, second; Kinney Pike Insurance, third; Joan Mealey, Women’s Closest to the Pin; Toby Jasmin, Men’s Closest to the Pin; Thalia Holmes, Women’s Longest Drive; Josh Marcell, Men’s Longest Drive.
