N. SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – The recreation area at North School in North Springfield, Vt. is open to the public and offers sliding and skating for all ages. The warming hut will be open Saturdays from 12- 4 p.m., weather permitting. The hut will be manned by Life Scout Seth Martin who was recruited by Springfield Parks and Recreation Department’s Andy Bladyka. There are skates at the hut for those who need to borrow them.
Seth, who is working toward his Boy Scout Citizenship in Community badge, has volunteered eight hours of his time to work at the hut to reach his goal as Eagle Scout. He will be compensated for any future hours.
Blaydka commented that Seth is very mature and social, and he is happy to have him aboard, adding that he is looking for someone who would be interested in opening the hut on Sunday afternoons.
If you are interested in working on Sunday afternoons at the hut on days when conditions are right for sliding and skating, contact Andy Blaydka at 802-885-2727. To be sure of weather conditions, check the Springfield Parks and Recreation’s Facebook page.
