SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – The big event is just around the corner, Feb. 8 and 9. Come one, come all to the Springfield Winter Carnival at Crown Point Country Club. All of our activities and events are free, thanks to the generous sponsorships of our local business community. Friday evening will kick off with bonfire and open skating and sledding under the lights, and our own Ben Fuller will be perform in the club, from 7-10 p.m. The Crown Point Pub will open at 4 p.m., offering a full menu, including their awesome Friday Fish Fry, wings, and drinks. There will also be free hot chocolate all evening!

Saturday, Feb. 9 is packed with fun stuff. Skating and sledding will continue to run all day and night, with the restaurant opening at 11 a.m. Some snowshoes will be provided. Please bring your own skates, sleds, and cross country skis. Lots of indoor kids’ activities are planned. Troy Wunderle’s interactive Big Top Circus Adventures will be there to dazzle from noon to 4 p.m. Don’t miss face-painting with Mona and Heidi, and games and sno-cones with All-4-One.

The annual Cardboard Sled Contest, which has grown bigger each year, will begin at 1 p.m. And for those with a need for speed, bring your kayak and test out the slopes in the Downhill Snow Kayak races at 2 p.m. There are prizes for the winners of both events. To enter either competition, please arrive 30 minutes prior to the event to register. We’re trying out a couple new ideas this year as well. We’ll have snow volleyball set up for pick-up games starting at 12:30 p.m., all ages are welcome to play, and a Cornhole tournament at 3 p.m. Saturday festivities will carry on with a spectacular fireworks display at 6:30 p.m., brought to you by Atlas Fireworks and Kelley Sales and Service. Immediately following the fireworks, local band Heartfire will entertain us in the clubhouse, from 7-10 p.m. Carpooling is encouraged, and parking is first come, first serve.

The Snowman Competition is back. Leading up to the Winter Carnival, build a snowman at your home or business and send a picture to enter!
