LONDONDERRY, Vt. – Willis L. Gordon Sr. “Bill,” 87, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Willis was born June 7, 1932 in Andover, Vt., the son of Merrill Sr. and Anna Mae Gordon. He attended Chester High School and went on to study agriculture in Randolph, Vt. He married Barbara M. Snow from Arlington, Vt. Nov. 30, 1952.
Willis worked on building the Bald Mountain as a construction worker for many years. He loved working at Magic Mountain, Bromley, and Mount Snow ski areas, always with a smile on his face. Willis also owned a Texaco Station in Londonderry for many years.
After he retired, he went onto more construction work, working for Larry Brown Exc. For the past few years, Willis spent time working up on Marsh Hill in Andover with his brother Harry Gordon. Willis loved working outdoor on the land. He loved chatting with new and old friends and acquaintances around the area. He was a member of the Masons for many years.
Willis and Barbara enjoyed the past several winters in Bethlehem, Fla. where they set up a seasonal home. Willis enjoyed family gatherings, cookouts, and just sitting around telling stories to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always with a smile and laughter.
Willis is survived by his wife Barbara of 67 years; five children Willis Jr. and wife Cindy, Laurie Wachlin and husband Chuck, Dustin Sr. and wife Sheila, Steven and wife Donna, Deborah Blackmer and friend; and 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by four brothers and one sister.
A celebration of life will be held Sept. 28, 2019 at 1 p.m. at the Dustin and Sheila Gordon residence at 3031 Route 11, Londonderry, Vt. Memorial donations may be made out to Barbara Gordon in helping with arrangements.
