LUDLOW, Vt. – Richard Malcolm Shattuck died July 6, 2016. A graveside service will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019 at 12 p.m. at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Ludlow, Vt. Margo Marrone will officiate. A reception will follow immediately after the service at the American Legion Ballard Hobart Post in Ludlow, Vt.
Richard was born July 6, 1941 in Springfield, Vt. to Doris and Harold Shattuck. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1958 and later transferred to the Army where he retired as a Sergeant 1st Class E-7.
He married Mary Partanen in 1969, and their daughter Michelle Lee was born in 1970. He worked at General Electric for many years, starting at the Ludlow plant and then transferring to the Rutland plant and retiring in 1992. He then started his own plumbing and heating business in Mount Holly, Vt. with wife Mary and daughter Michelle until they eventually retired and moved to Florida.
Richard loved being on his boat on Mallets Bay on Lake Champlain and loved to water ski. He and Mary also owned a cottage in Bridport where they spent summers with their daughter. Richard loved NASCAR, and his favorite driver was Tony Stewart. He enjoyed surf fishing with Michelle and son-in-law Justus. He also loved to travel with the love of his life, Mary, on their trips back to Vermont in the summer to visit.
His love, Mary, would live another three years before being reunited with him eternally. Richard is survived by his daughter Michelle and son-in-law Justus Pingree of Plymouth, and two sisters Linda Kobus of Chicopee, Mass. and Pat Wyman of Cavendish, Vt. Richard is predeceased by his parents, two brothers Bob and Forrest, and a sister Joyce Seace.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to The Semper Fi Fund to help wounded veterans and their families, or to the Plymouth Memory Tree, P.O. Box 47, Plymouth, VT 05056. Seawinds Crematorium in Sebastian, Fla. was in charge of arrangements.
