LUDLOW, Vt. – Richard J. Harrison Jr., 81, died Thursday morning, Sept. 12, 2019 at the Gill Odd Fellows Home in Ludlow. He was born April 9, 1938 in Springfield, Vt., the son of Richard Sr. and Cora (Anderson) Harrison. He attended Ludlow schools, graduating from Black River High School class of 1957.
On Feb. 13, 1960, Richard married Betty Ann Hill at the Cavendish Baptist Church in Cavendish, Vt. Richard worked as a machinist lead man with General Electric in Ludlow and Rutland, Vt. for 25 years. After retiring from G.E., Richard served as the Ludlow Fire Chief for 20 years, retiring from the chief position in 2000. Richard served over 50 years as a member of the Ludlow Fire Department and Ambulance. Richard also owned and operated the Best Western Motel, and the Colonial Condominiums in Ludlow for many years.
Richard served as a Village Trustee for the town of Ludlow for many years. He also served on the DRB Board in Ludlow and was a member of the Army National Guard for many years. Richard enjoyed postal history and antiquing.
He is survived by his wife Betty Ann Harrison of Ludlow, Vt.
Last call will be Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019 at 9:45 a.m. at the Ludlow Fire Station. A procession will follow to the Pleasant View Cemetery in Ludlow for a graveside service officiated by Reverend Abraham Gross.
