Mary was born Dec. 28, 1942 in Lappeenranta, Finland, to parents Selma and Emil Partanen. When Mary was 2, her parents and two sisters moved to the United States, settling down in Mount Holly, Vt. Mary met her forever love Richard, and they were married in 1969. Their daughter Michelle was born in 1970.
Mary worked for Mack Molding in Cavendish, Vt. for some years before her employment with General Electric first in Ludlow before transferring to the Rutland plant. Upon her retirement from General Electric in 1992, she and Richard started their plumbing and heating business in Mount Holly, which they ran with Michelle’s help until they retired and moved to Florida.
Mary deeply loved Richard. When he passed away in 2016, she was devastated and missed him dearly. She could not wait to be reunited with him eternally. In happier times, Mary enjoyed their boat, which they kept up on Mallets Bay on Lake Champlain. Mary and Richard also loved their cottage in Bridport, Vt., spending summers there with their daughter. They loved traveling back to Vermont in the summers to visit. Mary also loved NASCAR and driver Carl Edwards and watching the Hallmark Movie Channel.
Mary is survived by daughter Michelle, son-in-law Justus Pingree, and her best friend Eleanor Cichy of Sebastian, Fla. Mary is predeceased by her parents and two sisters Tuula Johanssen and Karen Hedeler. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to the Plymouth Memory Tree, P.O.
