BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. – Margaret Tidd, 92, of Front Street passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2019. Margaret was born in Bristol, Vt. Oct. 23, 1926, the daughter of Wallace and May (Weiss) Clapper. She excelled in sports and in her senior year her team won the Vermont State Basketball Championship.
She worked as a sales person and was a “Rosie Riveter” making jungle hammocks during World War II. She was a member of the American Legion Post 37 Auxiliary for 37 years and was active in her children’s church activities. She was always grateful for her friends and family. She was a kind soul loved by many and will be missed by all.
Surviving are her children Michael A. Tidd of Springfield, Vt. and Margaret Ellen Jones of Putney, Vt.; grandchildren Ross Martin and wife Dani-Rae, Danielle Singleton and husband Josh, and Ian Singleton and wife Bess; great-grandchildren Spencer, Kassidy, Jacob, Sydney, Sage and stepson Cole, and Senna; and two special nieces Suzanne Barrow and MaryAnn Sorrell who helped her throughout her life. Also surviving are her stepchildren Kevin Tidd and wife and their children Joanne Davis, Nancy Davis, and Butch Davis and their families; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her dearest friend George Smith of Bristol, Vt. who she maintained a special relationship with throughout her life. She is predeceased by her daughter Sharon T. Singleton, her parents, her brothers Arthur, Charles, and Donald Clapper, and sisters Ethel “Toots” Lonergan, Marion McGuire, and Ruth Sorrell.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Bellows Falls, Vt., followed by a celebration of life at the Moose Family Center in Bellows Falls. Margaret loved purple if anyone would like to wear a touch of it. Arrangements are in the care of Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home.
