BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. – Jane Valerie Morano Purdy, 53, of School Street died May 26, 2018 at home surrounded by her family. Jane was born April 15, 1965 in Framingham, Mass. to Alfred P. Morano and Anne F. Marr. She grew up in Bedford, Mass. where she graduated high school in 1983. Jane went on to attend the University of Maine in Orono where she received a Bachelor of Science in engineering followed by a master’s degree from Antioch University. In 1997, Jane and her business partner, Michael Marquise, founded Marquise and Morano, Civil and Environmental Engineering LLC. Jane moved to Vermont in 1993 and in 1995 married her husband, William H. Purdy. The birth of their three sons, Jackson, Maxwell, and Lucas soon followed.
Jane’s passion as a mother was to expose her children to experiences of unfamiliar cultures and expand their horizons. No road trip was too far or plane ride too long. Jane’s desire to break from traditional roles led her to challenge herself both personally and professionally. From hiking the Rockies and the Alps, to kayaking rivers and oceans, and skiing locally and afar, no challenge was left undone.
Her commitment to civic responsibility led her to serve as Rockingham’s representative on the Windham Regional Commission as well as other leadership roles on various boards. Jane’s willingness to spearhead challenges will be remembered by many as she chaired the controversial Bellows Falls Middle School Renovation project. Despite all her public hats, Jane will be remembered most for her love of family, of cooking, and of walks along the beach.
In addition to her husband, William, and their sons Jackson, 19, Maxwell, 16, and Lucas, 13, Jane is survived by her father Alfred P. Morano and stepmother Karen; her mother Anne F. Genes and stepfather Nick; her siblings Peter, Karen, David, Annie, stepsister Erika; and her nieces and nephews Kerri, Jennifer, Beth, Nicole, Matthew, Kit, Angela, and Kyle.
A day of remembrance has been selected as Saturday, June 16, 2018. A mass will be held at St. Charles Catholic Church, 31 Cherry St., Bellows Falls, Vt. at 10 a.m. followed by an 11 a.m. Celebration of Life at the Stone Church Center, 20 Church St., Bellows Falls, Vt.
In lieu of flowers, a bank trust has been established for the family. Those wishing to contribute may send checks payable to “Jane V (Morano) Purdy Memorial” to TD Bank, 2 Church St, Bellows Falls, VT 05101, Attn: Thomas Chisamore.
