Fred Brooks, 1931-2023 πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – Fred Brooks, 92, of Springfield, Vt., passed away on Sept. 28, 2023, in Ludlow, Vt. He was born on Jan. 3, 1931, in Ludlow, Vt., to Nelson “Pat” Brooks and Viola Butler Brooks. Fred was known to his loved ones as “Bud.”

Fred was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lillian Ilene Butler Brooks on Sept. 19, 2007, after a marriage of 50 years.

Fred is survived by his sister Beatrice Walker; brother Douglas Brooks; and Fred and Lillian’s children George Brooks, Melinda Carroll, and Charlene Hale. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren Lisa Gomez, George Brooks Jr., Angela Castro, Frederick Brooks, Pamela, Randy, Hannah, Faith, Hope, Zoey Brooks, Jayden Chavez, Lorrie Gomez, Matthew Howe, and Jacob Howe, and step-grandson Jason Hale. Additionally, he was blessed with many great-grandchildren.

Fred’s military service was a significant part of his life. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a private first class for two years and eight months, demonstrating his dedication and commitment to his country.

After his military service, Fred pursued a career as a master machinist at Fellows Corp. in Springfield, Vt. His expertise and skills in machining were highly regarded by his colleagues and peers.

Outside of his professional life, Fred had a passion for fishing. It was during these moments that he found true joy and contentment with his grandson Jake. Whether casting his line into a quiet lake or sharing fishing stories with friends, Fred’s love for fishing was evident to all who knew him.

Fred was also a man of many hats, and was first in line to help family and friends with his many skills.

A graveside service to honor and celebrate Fred’s life will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery in Ludlow, Vt., on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023, at 1 p.m.

Fred Brooks will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
