N. SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – Fern (Gragen) Cook, 89, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018 at her home. She was born Sept. 21, 1929 in Rutland, Vt., daughter of Elizabeth (Prindle) Gragen and Raymond Gragen. She was married to Wendell Cook Dec. 20, 1948. Fern was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Altar Society. She enjoyed all types of arts and crafts. For many years, she worked as a teacher’s aide in the Springfield school system.
Fern is survived by her husband of 70 years; five sons Thomas Cook (Debbie) of Cohasset, Mass., Dana Cook of Mount Holly, Vt., David Cook (Darla) of Reading, Vt., Wendell Cook II of North Springfield, Vt., and Andrew Cook of Langdon, N.H.; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Jane (Cook) Kelso of Troy, N.Y.
Friends may call at the Davis Memorial Chapel Thursday, Oct. 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held Friday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Springfield, Vt. Graveside committal services will follow at 3 p.m. in Pleasant View Cemetery, Randolph, Vt.
