LUDLOW, Vt. – Esther L. Strong, 95, of Ludlow, Vt. passed away on April 4, 2018 at the Gill Odd Fellows Home. She was born June 29, 1922 to Charles and Edith (Woods) Strong, in Winchester, N.H.
After her high school years, she moved to Massachusetts, where she went to work as a nanny to the Clarke family. She was so well loved by them that she became a part of their lives until their death, many years later. She worked as a companion nurse around the Boston area until 1977 when she moved to Vermont to be with family members. This is where she stayed for the last 41 years of her life.
She loved the ocean, all animals and birds, and visiting with friends and relatives.
She is survived by her sister in-law, Doris Strong of Springfield, Vt. and nephew Robert Davis and wife Laurie of Cavendish, Vt. who tended to all of her affairs until her death. Also by many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her sisters Ruth Davis of San Antonio, Texas; Gertrude Davis of Cavendish, Vt.; and Dottie Smith of Massachusetts. Brothers Rodney Strong of Springfield, Vt.; Bud Strong, who was killed in World War II; Raymond Castine of Massachusetts; Eugene Castine; and Richard Castine of Keene, N.H.
At her request, there will be no funeral service. Burial will be a private affair at a later date.
