CHESTER, Vt. – Alice M. Pollard, 86, died Nov. 23, 2019 at her home after a period of declining health. She was born Sept. 5, 1933 in Ludlow, Vt., the daughter of Orison and Ida (Hart) Thomas. She attended Ludlow schools.
On May 14, 1955, she married Robert J. Pollard in Ludlow, Vt.; they celebrated their 64th anniversary this year. He predeceased her Nov. 16, a week before her passing.
She was a stay-at-home mom until her children were grown. She then went to work at Mack Molding, Walpole Wire, and Whitney Blake for many years. She retired so she could spend time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed baking, embroidery, knitting, puzzles, playing bingo, and spending time at camp in Maine.
She is survived by her daughter Christine Spaulding and her husband Richard; sons Robert J. Pollard Jr. and his wife Julie, Gary L. Pollard and his wife Susan all of Chester, Vt., and daughter Diann Waters and her husband John of Reading, Vt.; one sister Mary Lachapelle of Springfield, Vt.; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Robert, son Herbert Harford Jr., granddaughter Melanie Spaulding, brother William Thomas, and sister Phyllis Lucius.
A private graveside service will be held at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Ludlow, Vt. at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse and Hospice for Vermont and New Hampshire, P.O. Box 881, Brattleboro, VT 05302.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, Vt.
