SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – Springfield Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) members attended a volunteer appreciation event on May 27, at the renovated Carriage Barn at Shelburne Farms, along Lake Champlain’s lakefront location with a beautiful view across the lake to the Adirondack Mountains. The University of Vermont OLLI staff hosted the event to thank the many OLLI volunteers throughout Vermont who make the OLLI programs so popular.
The programs are designed for seniors 50 years of age and older, and provide opportunities for interesting programs on a variety of topics for seniors to learn “for the fun of it.” Springfield’s membership participation has doubled this last semester because of the local steering committee’s offerings of interesting and entertaining programs. Springfield’s OLLI was one of the first created in the State of Vermont and has existed for 22 years.
The event included networking with other members from throughout the state. There was also a demonstration about cacao with tasting of chocolate drinks and a cheese tasting of the Farmstead cheddar cheeses produced at Shelburne Farms.
