WINDSOR, Vt. – Old South Church in Windsor, Vt. is pleased to welcome the Reverend Doctor Ezra Maxwell Chapola as its new settled pastor.
Pastor Ezra began his tenure at Old South Dec. 1, 2019. Deacon Tom McGraw expressed his praise, “We feel blessed to have Ezra join us as our spiritual leader. His sense of confidence and trust in his faith journey is already having an impact on the Old South congregation.”
Ezra Maxwell Chapola was born in Malawi, Southern Africa, and is a second-generation pastor. In 1999 he finished his four-year diploma in theology at the United Theological College in Harare, Zimbabwe. He then received his Master of Divinity degree and Master of Arts from Bangor Theological Seminary in Bangor, Maine. In 2016, he completed his Ph.D. in interdisciplinary studies at the University of Maine, Orono, Maine.
While in Zimbabwe, Pastor Ezra served Norton and Highfield United Church of Christ in Zimbabwe. A minister with full standing in the United Church of Christ, Pastor Ezra has served churches in the Maine Conference of the UCC, including 11 years at Stevens Avenue UCC, in Portland, Maine before coming to Old South Church.
Of his time thus far in Windsor, Pastor Ezra said, “Working with an open-minded community of faith that is ready to demonstrate the love of God in word and deed by serving our neighbors in the Windsor community and beyond, is what excites me to be the settled pastor of Old South Church.”
Old South Congregational Church, an open and affirming church, was founded in 1768 and celebrated its 250th anniversary in 2018. The current church building on Main Street in Windsor, Vt. was designed by renowned architect Asher Benjamin.
