BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. – The Great Falls Regional Chamber of Commerce and Bellows Falls Downtown Association Chowder and Chili Cook-Off was well attended Saturday, Oct. 27, despite the freezing rain with temperatures hovering above freezing.

It was a perfect day to sample hot recipes made by over 18 local chefs who concocted their best and favorite chili and chowder recipes. The Flat Iron Exchange acted as hub and starting point. Participants then strolled along the Square, tasting various chowders and chilis at local businesses. There was a variety of recipes from vegetarian to chilis with different meats and the chowders ranging from curries to corn or clam.

The winner for best chowder went to reigning champion Team Jewelz. Cousin Suzy’s Chowdah came in second place with The Flattys in third.

Halladay’s won best chili, which they served with their famous beer bread. Second and third place went to Team FFO Chilitrumolamma and The Advocates, respectively.

The crowd was warmed and fed while lively banter filled each tasting space as the community mingled with business owners for this successful annual event.
