Enjoy fresh salads all year round

LONDONDERRY, Vt. – Green Mountain Gardeners invites you to join your neighbors and local gardeners Monday, Feb. 4, 2019, at 11 a.m., to learn about growing organic indoor greens. The presentation is open to the public and will take place at the Londonderry Rescue Squad Building, 6068 Route 100, Londonderry.

Peter Burke, master gardener of Calais, Vt., and author of “Year-Round Indoor Salad Gardening, How to Grow Nutrient-Dense, Soil-Sprouted Greens in Less Than 10 Days” will share his efficient and effective approach to having fresh salad greens every day.

Burke developed a low-tech, no-grow light to growing greens all year round, even in winter. He found that by growing small amounts on a daily or every other day basis can make fresh, delicious salad ingredients readily available. According to Burke, all you need is a windowsill or two.

He has grown up to six pounds of greens per day – including sprouts, pea shoots, radishes, and buckwheat – using just the windowsills in his kitchen. His upcoming presentation will provide instructions and recommendations on seeds and greens varieties, soil and compost, trays and planters, tools and accessories to have on hand.
