BRATTLEBORO, Vt. – On Sept. 25, 14 area carpenters and builders completed SEON’s training class, “Basics of High Performance Building” taught by Peter Yost of BuildingGreen and hosted at the Windham Regional Career Center. For experienced carpenters, this course fills a recognized gap in the professional development of our area’s workforce – the inability to access quality training in high performance construction and the principles and application of Building Science. With the emphasis on tighter homes, it is imperative that our builders are knowledgeable about how heat and water move around and through buildings and the assemblies, heat transfer, vapor diffusion, and how heat and moisture transfer work together. The public needs to be assured that we have a workforce knowledgeable of these factors as well as having the capability to manage these applications of the fundamental principles of Building Science.
This course is one of the key criteria for SEON’s High Performance Builder Level 1 Credential. Additional training will be required along with job site learning. These experienced carpenters will have a jump start in completing the credential requirements because of their experience. Training for those who want to enter the carpentry trade will begin in January.
