Dating back to 1945, Mitch’s Maples Sugar House produces and sells pure Vermont maple products, including maple syrup, maple candy, and maple cream. The sugarhouse is a family tradition, passed through the generations. Owner Mark Mitchell learned how to make maple syrup from his grandfather and has been working the sugarhouse commercially since about 1990.
Mitch’s Maples is a proud member of Vermont Maple Sugar Makers’ Association. During the sugaring season, typically late February into early April, the sugarhouse offers tours on the weekends, weather permitting, which is a great time for the entire family.
Mitchell specializes in “Vermont Fancy” grade of syrup, and offers three colors, or grades:
- Vermont Grade A – Golden, also well known as “Vermont Fancy,” has a light, golden color with a mild, delicate taste. Excellent as table syrup, or over ice cream or yogurt. This is Mitch’s Maples’ specialty grade.
- Vermont Grade A – Amber, which has a light amber color and full-bodied flavor. This class of syrup is the product of choice for consumers who desire the classic maple syrup flavor.
- Vermont Grade A – Dark, which has a dark amber color with a more pronounced, robust maple flavor. This class will satisfy those consumers who desire the strong flavors of what has been known as Grade B.
Mitch’s Maples Sugarhouse is open daily from daylight till dark, where you can purchase syrup by the half pint, pint, quart, half gallon, or gallon, or you can make purchases on their website at www.mitchsmaples.com.
On your next trip to Vermont, be sure to stop by and visit Mitch’s Maples Sugarhouse! Take Route 11 East in Chester for about a half-mile. Turn right onto Green Mountain Turnpike, and the sugarhouse is the first house on the left.
