GMALL presents: The Anthropology of Conspiracy Theories

October 12 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

MANCHESTER, Vt. – Green Mountain Academy for Lifelong Learning (GMALL) welcomes Dr. Phillips Stevens, Associate Professor Emeritus of Anthropology, to talk about the anthropology of conspiracy theories on Tuesday, Oct. 12 from 5:30-7 p.m. “Conspiracy Theory” is a common phrase in the news these days; what does it mean? Is it something to fear? This talk discusses some of the standard elements in public narratives about hidden evil forces that are working among us to subvert our way of life. Anthropology reveals that such beliefs are absolutely universal, intensify in times of general anxiety, and probably have their roots in the evolution of human sociality. Registration and fee is required. For more information or to register, please call our office at 802-867-0111 or visit www.greenmtnacademy.org.
