BONDVILLE, Vt. – The Winhall Industrial Society welcomes one and all to the 222nd Bondville Fair, Friday, Aug. 23 to Sunday, Aug. 25. The fair takes place on the same fairgrounds on Route 30 in Bondville as it did for the first gathering back in 1797. See the animal pulls, pet a happy goat, listen to a local band, smell the incredible flower arrangements, or simply stroll along the Midway under the exciting carnival rides. Gates open at 10 a.m. each day
The Ailene Capen Floral Hall showcases local garden produce, cooking specialties, artistic endeavors, and original works. The submission categories are original from the 1930s, including vegetables, fruits, eggs, cut flowers, plants, hay, preserves and pickles, baked goods, bread, needle-craft, clothing, photography, and arts and crafts – which must have been created within two years and not awarded a cash prize in a previous Bondville Fair. Adults may submit up to three entries per category. Children under 16 have unlimited entries.
In the Elizabeth Chichton Quilt Hall, the Bondville Fair Quilt Show takes place all weekend. Any quilt, Vermont made or not, old or contemporary, is welcome to be entered. Youth quilts can be a “work in progress” and still be admitted to the show. Entries may include hand stitch, machine stitch, tied stitch, contemporary, antique, best group quilt, or people’s choice award.
Entries for both halls are accepted Thursday, Aug. 23, from 4 to 6 p.m., and Friday, Aug. 24, from 9 to 11 a.m. The halls are open for viewing Friday at noon and Saturday and Sunday at 11 a.m. Judging will take place Friday at 11 a.m. Entries must be picked up Sunday, Aug. 26 by 4 p.m.
Ribbons and cash prizes are awarded for first, second, and third place in each category with rosettes awarded for outstanding effort. Children under 16 are judged separately in the quilts, vegetable, and arts and crafts categories.
