On Wednesday, Sept. 12, please join us at 6 p.m. for an evening with Andrea Gabor presenting her new book, “After the Education Wars: How Smart Schools Upended the Business of Reform.” Bestselling author and veteran business journalist Andrea Gabor shows how the corporate reform movement that has dominated the way Americans educate children for over two decades has largely ignored the successful, from-the-ground-up strategies for improving schools that are hiding in plain sight all across the country. From a fresh, non-ideological perspective, informed by long exposure to the worlds of both management and education, Gabor engagingly reveals what makes real-world, long-term education reform work, and why so many reform efforts have failed.

On Thursday, Sept. 13 at 5:30 p.m., join us for a book signing with Jane Iwan whose historical novel, “Refugee of the Heart,” combines romance with intrigue to create a tale of love, loss, and survival in early 20th century China as World War II looms on the horizon. Young and orphaned, Chan Wei-chen arrives in Shanghai, beginning a saga that will take him through the horrors of World War II and ultimate escape to Hong Kong. When Wei-chen meets the lovely Hui-lan, he realizes she is the woman of his dreams. Events conspire to keep them apart when the Japanese invade China, Hui-lan is trapped in Nanking and the battle for Shanghai begins.

Jane Iwan has previously worked as a technical writer and editor. She spent four years experiencing all Hong Kong had to offer.
