WALPOLE, N.H. – Play picks up this week in the Connecticut River Valley Baseball League. Rain and a bye week left our two area teams without a game on the diamond. The only contests completed saw Brattleboro defeating the Connecticut Valley Ironmen 4-3 and Putney keeping Claremont winless 7-4.The elements kept the big first place showdown between the Walpole Maples and the Keene Summit Athletics from being played. The two have scheduled a June 13 make-up date at Walpole’s Hubbard Complex. It will be a 6:30 p.m. game under the lights.
The two teams stand at 2-0 atop the standings and Maples lead man Mark McGill says, “it would have been nice to play them. We were hopeful, but then the rains came a little after noon for the contest slated for 3 p.m.” McGill added, ” the sun came out later, but the decision had to be made.”
Presently, there is a three-way tie for third with the Walpole Wild Blue and the Putney Fossils at 1-1 and Brattleboro at 2-2. The Ironmen stand 1-2 and Claremont is 0-3.
The Wild Blue have their shot at the Summit A’s Thursday night this week. They play in Walpole at 6:30 p.m.
