LONDONDERRY, Vt. – Time always seems to move a bit faster as the calendar demarcates another year in the books. This New Year’s Eve, it’ll be going even faster as Magic Mountain Ski Area holds the inaugural skiing and snowboard speed event “Tuck It! The Dash for Cash,” presented by Long Trail Brewing. Prize money will be on the line as well for the fastest skier or snowboarder in the east.

It’s a straight-down-the-course, all tuck position, starting on Lower Black Line with a speed zone radar-gunned section on Hocus Pocus, all viewable right from Magic’s base lodge and deck. There will be a miles per-hour read-out display for each speed racer for all spectators to see. There will be multiple age categories for prizes as well as it is an event to test anyone’s personal-record for speed while on skis or snowboard.

Overall 1st place prize is the winner’s trophy, $500 cash, plus new custom-designed Silo Skis ordered to winner’s specs, plus a season pass to Magic for the 2018-19 season.

Overall 2nd place is $300 cash, plus prizes and a Freedom 4-pack of Magic tickets.

Overall 3rd place is $200 cash, plus prizes and a Freedom 4-pack of Magic tickets.

Then there will be medals and other prizes for top three finishers in each age category 12-17 years old, 18-34 years old, and 35+ years old, and one snowboard category.

Tuck It! will be a two-run event counting only the best single MPH score of either run, with the speed event taking place between 1 -3:30 p.m. on Dec. 31. The awards ceremony will take place during après ski on the deck and rolls right into New Year’s celebration at Magic, which includes live music at the Black Line Tavern, dinner, DJ, and dancing at night followed by Midnight Fireworks to toast the New Year. All are welcome to participate in Tuck It! with registration limited to the first 100 skiers/boarders. Registration is available at www.magicmtn.com/events.

Tuck It! is presented by Long Trail Brewery, and sponsored by Silo Skis, Citizen Cider, Cornerstone Risk Management.

“There haven’t been a lot of pure speed events in eastern skiing for many years,” said Geoff Hatheway President of Magic Mountain. “So, this is a great throwback, exciting event for both the racers and spectators. We hope to keep building it into a bigger and bigger event each year and we thank our sponsors like Long Trail Brewing, Silo skis, Citizen Cider and Cornerstone Risk Management for partnering with us.”
