Kids compete at local 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl

REGION – Thirty 4-H’ers from five clubs in Orange and Windsor Counties turned out for the 2017 Central and Southeast region 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl on Saturday, March 4.

The venue for the annual event, which included a written general knowledge exam and a buzzer-round quiz bowl, was the Red Schoolhouse on the Vermont Technical College campus. Clubs represented at this University of Vermont Extension 4-H event included the Clever Clovers, Tunbridge; Middle Branch, Randolph Center; Rambling Rivers, Newbury; Top of the World, Reading; and Windsor Wonders, Springfield.

Scores for the exam and quiz bowl were combined for overall individual scores to determine placements. The 4-H’ers competed by age group with special divisions for those who have never competed in a dairy quiz bowl before.

The winners in each division, in order of placement from first to last, are:

Seniors (14-18): Kennedy Moore, South Reading (Top of the World); Seth Carson, Newbury (Rambling Rivers); Ron Senecal, Bradford (Rambling Rivers); Tyler Slack, Bethel (Clever Clovers)

Juniors (11-13): Keenan Thygesen, Tunbridge (Clever Clovers); Riley Cross, South Pomfret (Top of the World); Abby Carson, Newbury (Rambling Rivers); Caleb Palazzo, Pomfret (Top of the World); MacKenzie Bushey, Springfield (Windsor Wonders); Zed McNaughton, Weathersfield (Windsor Wonders); Dylan Slack, Bethel (Clever Clovers); Hanna Dolloff, Springfield (Windsor Wonders)

4-H teens Katie Howard and Levi Vaughan, both from East Thetford, assisted with scoring, review of the rules and other tasks at the event.
