SPRINGFIELD, Vt. – The Springfield High School Arts Department and the Culinary Arts Program of the River Valley Technical Center invite everyone in the community to share in the second annual Harvest Arts Festival & Benefit Dinner this Nov. 9, 2017 at the high school.
The event includes a hearty meal of soup and bread from 5 – 7 p.m., accompanied from 5:30 to 6 p.m. by musical performances with student artwork on display. There is a cost to attend, and an additional cost for a ceramic bowl. Concert admission is free. Other student-made arts and crafts, including handcrafted pottery and ornaments will also be for sale.
SHS students in visual arts and arts integration sessions donate the crafts and artwork they create, and most ingredients for the dinner are gifted by area businesses and individuals. River Valley Technical Center Chef Dave Groenewold donates his time making those ingredients into a meal, as do students he supervises.
All the proceeds from this event are split evenly between the Backpack Food Pantry (an SHS program providing students in need with food for the weekend) and the Springfield Family Center. Again this year, the event will take place along with SHS parent-teacher conferences. “It’s going to be a wonderful, busy night,” remarked SHS Principal Bindy Hathorn. “Not to be missed.”
